Managing Major Neurocognitive Disorder in Older Adults

Course overview

As a behavioral health professional, you may encounter people living with major neurocognitive disorder, or people who care for someone living with major neurocognitive disorder. Major neurocognitive disorder in the DSM-5 parallels what was labeled dementia in the DSM-IV, though sometimes the label dementia is still used by different organizations. A diagnosis of major neurocognitive disorder can be devastating due to the losses associated with the disease. Neurocognitive disorders affect every part of a persons life, and as behavioral health professionals, we have an opportunity to offer support, comfort, and care. The goal of this course is to provide education to beginner and intermediate addiction specialists, behavioral health counselors, marriage and family therapists, nursing, psychology, and social work professionals working in health and human services settings on how to evaluate, assess, and treat older adults with major neurocognitive disorder.
