Course overview

Cultural Humility provides a way of being to begin understanding, create a safe space for courageous conversations, and to build positive relationships among colleagues and families. When conflict and division are everyday realities, our instincts tell us to close ranks, to find the safety of our own tribe, and to blame others (Magee, n.d.). The practice of embodied mindfulness--paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in an open, nonjudgmental way--increases our emotional resilience, helps us to recognize our unconscious bias, and gives us the space to become less reactive and to choose how we respond to injustice (Magee, n.d.). Our "Inner Work: Cultivating Cultural Humility" training will provide a path for inner work to help infant mental health providers cultivate a racial equity lens in compassion, patience, and collective growth.
