Documentation of Hospice Technical and Clinical Criteria

Course overview

Hospices must meet all technical requirements for documentation while demonstrating clinical eligibility for hospice. Non-compliance can result in significant payment penalties. In this course, you will learn about the technical requirements for payment related to the hospice election statement, Notice of Election, initial certification, recertification, physician narrative, and face-to-face visit. You will also learn about the clinical aspects of hospice eligibility related to prognosis and diagnosis and the role of Local Coverage Determination (LCD) guidelines. Common problems related to documentation of eligibility and ways to prevent these problems will be reviewed. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of documentation to meet hospice technical and clinical criteria.
