Course overview

In recent years, a large body of research has found that greater amounts of higher intensity locomotor training are key to achieving improvements in walking function in patients with stroke and spinal cord injury. This information highlights the need for updated assessment and intervention strategies to implement high intensity gait training principles in the clinical setting. This course will assist clinicians to apply this research to their individual patients across a variety of settings in a practical and evidence-based manner to maximize functional outcomes. Clinicians are the key to bringing research to life and will be able to use the information from this course to make a significant impact on their patients recovery. This course will review the most up-to-date research regarding high intensity gait training in stroke and spinal cord injury and discuss strategies and goals for implementation in the clinical setting. Participants will get hands-on* practice with setup and intervention techniques, as well as practice strategies for more challenging patient populations. Participants will be immersed in the material through discussion, hands-on* practice, and case studies. Following this course, participants will be able to take back high intensity gait training assessment and intervention tools to immediately apply to their clinical work, as well as strategies to overcoming obstacles.
