Course overview

According to the dictionary, Narcissism is an excessive interest in or admiration of oneself and one's physical appearance.  A narcissistic personality disorder is found more commonly in men. The cause is unknown but likely involves a combination of genetic and environmental factors.  Symptoms include an excessive need for admiration, disregard for others' feelings, an inability to handle any criticism, and a sense of entitlement.  Working with clients on the Narcissistic Spectrum can be challenging for the therapist because of the unique challenges and skills required to avoid manipulation, resistance, and therapist "enmeshment" into the pathology.  This interactive webinar will explore the etiology of Narcissism and variables due to the spectrum of severity and offer treatment suggestions that will assist the individual in treatment and protect the professional "boundaries" of the therapist.  Narcissism will be reviewed from an individual perspective as well as it is more recently as a cultural phenomenon referred to as "The Narcissistic Epidemic".
