Improving Cultural-Diversity Competence

Course overview

Students will learn about the meaning of culture, race, ethnicity, acculturation, assimilation, segmented assimilation, biculturalism, enculturation, sociopolitical influences, etc.; gain new cultural competence skills; learn key steps in attaining cultural competence; understand how to treat more effectively culture-diverse populations; integrate cultural factors into evaluation and treatment of clients with behavioral health and substance use disorders, and integrate culturally congruent and responsive services more consistently across the continuum of care.
