Course overview

Students will learn about the mental health needs of children and adolescents who experience major disasters; how to assist clients reestablish normal functioning as quickly as possible; to teach clients affected by disaster the skills needed to return to pre-disaster level of coping; best strategies for providing assistance to children in both the early stages of crisis response and the later stages of emotional recovery from a disaster; understand factors that influence recovery from the traumatic events; and improve on crisis counseling and emotional recovery therapeutic tools.
