Deprescribing is a top priority in patient safety and is a component of effective prescribing practices. It is one of the processes that can address harmful polypharmacy. Deprescribing is the planned and supervised process of reducing doses or stopping medication that might cause harm or no longer be needed. It is fundamentally patient-centered. Deprescribing can prevent or correct medication complications, improve outcomes, and reduce costs.
