Course overview

This presentation offers a historical view of earlier DSM III-DSM 4-TR diagnostic criteria in relation to social, cultural, and familial "norms". It gives an explanation to the early bias that was globally accepted and thereafter cultural shift that initiated viewing psychopathology from a different perspective. The presentation correlates the fundamental theories of Ego- Development, Personality Development, Psychosocial, Psychosexual, Cognitive and Behavioral development on a continuum with varying degrees of overlapping pathological traits. The presentation will give an overview of each of the Clusters of Personality Disorders, present hypothetical etiology and treatment outcomes with specific illustrations. The presentation will end with actual illustrations by clients she had worked with explicit visual indicators of their pathology. (this workshop is especially good for counselors working with substance abuse clients and co-occurring disorders clients).
