EQ100: Equinology Equine Body Worker Certification Course

Course overview

The unique Equinology Equine Body Work approach is a hands-on system that addresses the whole body, implementing specific manual palpation methods to assess soft tissue and symmetry of muscle and structure. Students will learn how to utilize detailed static and dynamic evaluation strategies to inform their sessions. Students will be shown how to combine a range of body work techniques, including sports massage, soft tissue mobilization, stretching, range of motion and positioning exercises as well as focal point work (stress and trigger points) to provide optimal support for horses working in every discipline. The EQ100 Certification program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in equine body work, and is regularly attended by veterinarians, veterinary technicians, physical therapists, human massage therapists, and chiropractors who wish to enhance their skills or continue their education. The subject matter for this course is presented in a variety of mediums. The classroom lectures (incorporating discussions, visual presentations, illustrations, videos, bones and specimens) will prepare the student for the hands-on practical labs (both in the classroom and on the horse). The lab practicals vary depending on the topic and are supported by templates, labelling sessions, gait analysis sessions, muscle and surface anatomy identification and hands-on sessions. Additional independent study is required in the evenings, which is evaluated through self-assessments and quizzes. This course also requires pre-course distance study in skeletal anatomy and a post-course externship demonstrating the skills and techniques learned in class. The EQ100 has been recognized by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association and counts for 50 CE Hours for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (the maximum number of hours allowed).
