Course overview
HELEN C FOX, PH.D. Both gender and sex-related differences set women at a disadvantage with regards to the initiation, maintenance and outcome of addiction. Furthermore, women are now using substances to the same extent as men and have typically been left out of clinical trials resulting in high public health concern. NIH policy on sex as a biological variable was initiated in January 2016, and some of the challenges faced and progress made in relation to its application in addiction and medications development will be discussed broadly and in the context of Dr. Fox's research findings.
