This course offers foundational information on Plantar Fasciitis including epidemiology, etiology, risk factors, symptoms, physical exam findings, and diagnostic imaging. It provides an overview of various treatment approaches, including both conservative and surgical interventions. In addition, this course uses a unique approach through the inclusion of clinical applications for diagnosing, quantifying, and monitoring plantar fasciitis treatment progress. Course Goals
Upon completion of this course, the Therapist will:
1. IDENTIFY patients with and at risk for plantar fasciitis by history and exam findings.
2. Know the various treatment options, expected prognosis and outcomes.
3. CLINICAL APPLICATION: be able to objectively PERFORM, ANALYZE and TRACK patient progress through physical exam parameters, including Clinical Screening Tools and Measured Pressure Pain Testing (M-PPT).
4. CLINICAL APPLICATION: be able to APPLY interpretation of the concepts in this Module 1 in the analysis and management of a clinical case scenario.
Course Objectives
1. Review the ETIOLOGY of pain in Plantar Fasciitis.
2. Review the EPIDEMIOLOGY of Plantar Fasciitis.
3. Analyze the risk factors for developing Plantar Fasciitis.
4. Know activities that typically exacerbate or relive plantar fasciitis pain.
5. Analyze and interpret the methods used to evaluate Plantar Fasciitis & their limitations.
6. Review the BEST methods for diagnosing Plantar Fasciitis.
7. Understand general effectiveness of treatment methods used, such as: Shoe inserts Night splints Stretching Exercise.
8. Know the prognosis and expected clinical outcomes of Plantar Fasciitis.
9. CLINICAL APPLICATION: Review Clinical Screening Tools.
10. CLINICAL APPLICATION: learn to PERFORM and INTERPRET M-PPT.
11. CLINICAL APPLICATION: apply Module 1 concepts in the evaluation of a case scenario history and physical exam to derive a management & monitoring course for this case scenario.
