This course offers foundational information on Charcot Neuropathy, also known as Charcot Foot, including disease characteristics and sequela, risk factors and co-morbidities, history and physical exam findings, and diagnostic imaging. It also provides an overview of treatment recommendations. In addition, this course uses a unique approach through the inclusion of a Clinical Case Scenario history and physical exam that demonstrates concepts learned/reviewed in Module 6 about Charcot Neuropathy.

COURSE GOALS

Upon completion of this course, the Therapist will be able to:

1. IDENTIFY patients at risk for development of acute Charcot neuropathy based on disease epidemiology.

2. ANALYZE and INTERPRET the clinical presentation and management of acute Charcot neuropathy.

3. CLINICAL APPLICATION: be able to APPLY interpretation of article concepts in the analysis of a clinical case scenario.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Review the Etiology of acute Charcot neuropathy (or acute Charcot Foot)

2. Review the Epidemiology disease facts

3. Identify known Risk Factors for the development of acute Charcot foot

4. Analyze and interpret key clues from the History that indicate acute Charcot neuropathy

5. Learn key Physical Exam findings associated with acute Charcot foot

6. Recognize typical clinical presentation of acute Charcot neuropathy

7. Know how to differentiate erythema due to Charcot neuropathy from erythema due to infection or cellulitis

8. CLINICAL APPLICATION: apply module concepts in the dissection of a case scenario history and physical exam to derive a therapy diagnosis and management plan for this case.
