Course overview
Nutrition and diet are major components in the management of diabetes. It is important for behavioral health professionals to be educated about diabetes. Their knowledge can help empower their clients to be active participants in the management of their diabetes and to be successful in delaying or preventing disease complications. This course will review the role of diet and medical nutrition therapy in managing diabetes, common barriers to healthy eating, and counseling techniques to help clients be successful. The goal of this course is to educate addictions professionals, behavioral health counseling professionals, marriage and family therapy professionals, psychology professionals, and social work professionals in the health and human services settings on the impact of nutrition and diet on diabetes.
