Two-Year Outcomes of a Randomized, Family-Based Substance Use Prevention Trial for Asian American Adolescent Girls

This course examines the use of family-based prevention programming on decreasing substance use for Asian American adolescent girls and modifying risk and protective factors. Web-based interventions were used in order to strengthen the quality of their relationship and increase the girls' resilience to resist substance use. Two year follow up measurements indicate improvements in: mother daughter closeness and communication, maternal monitoring, self-efficacy, and refusal skills, along with fewer instances of alcohol and marijuana use and prescription drug misuse compared to the control group.
