Course overview

The purpose of this course is to provide an overview explain the components of the HIPAA legislation, differentiate between protected health information (PHI) and individually identifiable health information (IIHI), describe processes that must be used to assure patient information is kept confidential and secure, discuss three modifications to the HIPAA Act of 1996 by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. discuss three new provisions as noted in the HIPAA 2013 regulations. And provide students with experience grappling with decisions commonly encountered by practicing the skills.
