Course overview

Administrators of long-term care and assisted living facilities are responsible for a wide variety of functions, including the upkeep of the physical facilities or "plant." Maintenance is a tough task, but it should not intimidate any administrator. Understanding the physical structure and the working of your facility's equipment will help reduce worries about maintenance. While it is not necessary for you to know about every nut and bolt, an effective administrator should always be familiar with each department's basic work as it relates to long-term planning and daily operations. It is important to have a basic knowledge of building construction, corrective and preventive (sometimes called preventative) maintenance, equipment replacement, and realistic maintenance budgets. In this course, you will learn about basic concepts surrounding building components and mechanical equipment. In addition, you will learn how you can improve your maintenance program through corrective and preventive maintenance as well as regular inspections. The goal of this course is to assist administrators in post-acute care environments with overseeing a more productive and effective maintenance program.
