Course overview

Want to identify and address potential risks before they occur? With security breaches, service outages, and unauthorized access to sensitive data, mental health professionals need to understand how to protect their practices and their clients from harm that might take place during the use of technology in a therapeutic setting. Understanding how to assess and analyze the risks that can occur when using technology for clinical purposes can be difficult to navigate in this changing world of technology. This course will make it simpler to understand how to search for vulnerabilities and how to develop policies and procedures that address the determined risks. Easy to understand instruction is offered and step-by-step methods are introduced to make this at-times complicated journey easier to navigate. Participants will leave with resources to assist in the further development of a risk management plan that adheres to HIPAA standards, and they will have a greater understanding of what is required for a thorough informed consent form that includes an emergency plan. Join us as we walk through common scenarios for greater understanding of risk management.
