KBEMS Determination of Death and Preservation of Evidence Training

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

1. Understand the information contained in 202 KAR 7:401 Paramedics; specifically, the information regarding determination of death and preservation of evidence.
2. Understand the information contained in KRS 311A.185 Determination of death by paramedic, Notification, Instruction in making determination, and Administration of life support measures.
3. Understand the information contained in KRS 466.400 Determination of death, Minimal conditions to be met.
4. Understand the information contained in KRS 72.020 Duty of person, hospital, or institution finding or possessing dead body, Duties of coroner, law enforcement officer, embalmer, funeral director, or ambulance service.
5. Understand the information contained in KRS 314.181 Determination of death by registered nurses, Notification.
6. Know the Kentucky protocols for the pronouncement of death, conditions for the termination of medical efforts, including special considerations and exclusions.
7. Know the procedures for pronouncing a patient dead.
8. Know the procedures for securing a scene after pronouncing a patient dead.
