EFM Case Study #14: Golden Hour, Part 2
Tracking # 20-904118
Course overview
The 60 minutes immediately prior to birth and the first 60 minutes after, known as the "Golden Hour, are critical. Improper care delivered during this timeframe has short- and long-term consequences that negatively affect newborn neurologic development, increase mortality risk and foster malpractice claims. The Golden Hour isn't golden if an unstable fetus becomes an unstable newborn that was not prepared for in advance. Adoption of the current neonatal resuscitation guidelines and recommendations helps prepare perinatal first-responders to coordinate with neonatal second-responders to provide standardized resuscitation. This course is the second part of a two-part series that provides insight on how to identify a fetus who may require resuscitation and reviews current NRP guidelines with a case study and critical thinking drills.
