Complex Trauma Among Pediatric Populations

Course overview

Complex trauma involves chronic, prolonged, and repeated exposure to traumatic situations and events that often escalate over time. It typically occurs early in life during times of critical development within the caregiver and family system. When such instances occur, this can result in wide-ranging, and long-term neurological, developmental, psychological, social, and physical health challenges. Designed for pediatric therapists and other professionals, this 2-hour, live, interactive webinar hosted by Zoom provides attendees with a working overview of the causes and consequences associated with complex trauma among pediatric populations. Practical tips, strategies, and solutions are shared to improve treatment, intervention, goal planning, and screening practices. Empirically based research findings and case studies are highlighted. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) list the causes, consequences, and definitions associated with complex trauma and other related constructs; (2) describe the impact complex trauma has on pediatric populations; (3) identify interviewing, screening, and intervention practices; (4) list the role complex trauma plays in the development of co-occurring neuropsychiatric disorders; (5) identify the existing empirical research on complex trauma.
