Interprofessional Assessment and Treatment of Deficits from COVID-19

Course overview

Following the pandemic period of COVID-19, interprofessional practitioners are now treating even greater numbers of clients with the post-acute effects of compromised lung function and multiple other adverse effects to organs and systems. As a result, healthcare professionals must be prepared to provide effective treatment interventions for their clients with respiratory and other subsequent deficits. Consequently, our clients and patients may demonstrate prolonged illnesses and persistent symptoms, requiring our expanded skills to anticipate all the post-effects from this unique disease process. Collaboration, coordination and communication of all members of the interprofessional team is essential in providing effective client centered care to these clients. This course reviews the background, scope, transmissions, and complications of COVID-19 especially as it relates to older adult populations. It also introduces strategies for assessing and implementing treatment interventions designed for clients with compromised lung function and other remaining physical and cognitive symptoms across interprofessional practice settings. Furthermore, this course expounds on the persistent symptoms and deficits the client experiences following their diagnosis and recovery from COVID-19. Finally, this course reviews reimbursement and documentation principles to ensure efficacy in this area by healthcare providers.
