Course overview

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a rich, integrative approach, which has been shown to be effective with many clinical problems. Because ACT has a different perspective than traditional psychotherapy, some clinicians wonder how to blend these ACT applications into their own therapeutic approach. Other clinicians who have embraced the ACT concepts still have questions about certain aspects of the therapy. This workshop will explain ACT in a very clear, concise, and user-friendly manner, allowing participants to gain a conceptual and applied understanding of ACT. This workshop will cover the six domains of ACT, how to address resistance to both acceptance and mindfulness, and how ACT relates to other empirically-supported therapies. Case examples will highlight its use with substance use disorders, social phobia, OCD, and depression.
