Course overview

Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) therapy is a common form of a mechanical support device for the failing heart. Nurses specializing in cardiac care must have an understanding of the concepts of IABP therapy. Understanding how the IABP functions, the assessment parameters, and complications are critical. Nurses play a significant role in managing patients who require IABP therapy. The goal of this course is to prepare the cardiovascular nurse to sit for the Cardiovascular Nursing Level II board certification examination.
