Learning Objectives Module 1 Introduction to Lean Healthcare 9 a.m. to 930 a.m. 1. Recall the history of Lean from manufacturing to healthcare. 2. Describe various uses of Lean in a healthcare environment. 3. Categorize value added and non-value-added activities from a patients perspective. 4. Discuss the concept of Leans focus on people before processes. Module 2 Efficiency and Flow 930 a.m. to 11 a.m. 1. Explain why approximately 90 percent of a patients visit is traditionally spent in non-value-added activities. 2. Recall the eight types of waste. 3. Describe the purpose of a value stream map. 4. Recommend areas for improvement using a value stream map provided from a waste walk. Break: 11:00 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. Module 3 Waste Elimination Methods 1110 a.m. to 1240 p.m. 1. Discuss various types of visual controls. 2. State the 5 steps in a 5S organization project. 3. Describe examples of mistake proofing in a medical setting. 4. Compile a list of waste elimination solutions to the waste walk problem. 5. Explain the Plan-Do-Check-Act model. Module 4 Continuous Improvement 1240 p.m. to 110 p.m. 1. Explain the velocity of lean improvements using the 1 percent per day and everyone does Lean concepts. 2. Compare and contrast the different types of Lean initiatives. 3. Develop a list of potential Lean projects in the workplace.
