Course Description: This detailed article examines several disorders in children and adolescents including anxiety, eating and disruptive disorders, autism and substance abuse. This course is based on a portion of chapter three of a publication by the Surgeon General's office entitled; Mental Health: A report by the Surgeon General. The report is also on the SAMSHA website. Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General. This publication provides excellent information for the mental health professional, especially for those clinicians who work with children and adolescents and provides the practitioner with a general overview of several disorders. The course is targeted for beginning and intermediate practitioners. Learning Objectives: This course will provide a professional with an overview of children and mental health. Specifically, a professional will: 1. Differentiate between the anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of autism and disruptive disorders in children and adolescents. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of substance abuse and eating disorders in children and adolescents.
