Course overview
In this course, you will learn about immunodeficiencies, specifically primary immune deficiency diseases (PIDD)s. The immune system is composed of two main pathways, innate and adaptive immunity. PIDDs are associated with the innate immune system. Secondary immune deficiency diseases (SIDD)s are associated with the adaptive immune system (Azar & Ballas, 2020). Most immunodeficiencies are PIDDs, so the majority of this course will focus on PIDDs. Nursing care for pediatric and adult patients with PIDDs and SIDDs can be vastly different. Thus, for the purposes of this course, acute care discussions will focus on the adult patient with immunodeficiencies in the hospital.
