Permission to be Profitable: Therapists in Private Practice

Course overview

Many therapists in private practice start out with a strong desire to help others, and feel discomfort around the idea of using their skills for personal gain. This sounds nice, but it can become problematic when therapists don't feel they have "permission" to run a profitable private practice. Their personal conflicts around profit can make it hard for them to survive financially, which can leave them vulnerable to burnout and stress. Ironically, these issues can drain them to the point where they are actually too depleted to bring their "best self" to the office, and their clinical work suffers. This workshop with clinical psychologist and author Dr. Chloe Carmichael will help therapists to overcome barriers to professional success. We will focus on therapists and ambivalence about the topic of profits; and personal or ethical fears they might have about self-promotion. Attendees will gain new perspectives around how creating a sustainable practice will actually position them to offer greater support to their clients as well as their community around them; plus of course for themselves and their families.
