  2. Describe the impact that seizure disorders have on oral and dental health

  5. Recommend treatment methods to limit dental trauma/ displacement of oral prostheses for patients with seizures

Course overview

Several medical, pharmacologic, and dental implications should be considered for patients with seizure disorders when planning and implementing dental care. Most patients with seizure disorders are managed with medications, which may have an impact on oral and gingival health. Providers must also be aware of other methods of seizure management. Similarly, seizure disorders may cause ambulatory unsteadiness, and seizures themselves could present the potential for oral and dental trauma. This course will review the clinical implications of seizure disorders on dental care and planning and treatment considerations that dental providers should be aware of for appropriate management and care of patients with seizure disorders.
