Master Tung Bloodletting

Course overview

According to many sources, bloodletting is the original practice from which modern acupuncture evolved. It is the best way to remove blood stasis, which is responsible for much of the pathology and symptoms we see in our clinics. Unfortunately, the technique is underused by practitioners and under-taught by schools. This course will give practitioners the knowledge they need in order to use bloodletting safely, confidently, and effectively in the clinic. They will learn classical and Master Tung bloodletting therapy, but using modern tools and instruments for enhanced safety and patient comfort. Practitioners will learn key bloodletting concepts, bloodletting in Western Medicine, bloodletting safety, tools for bloodletting, how to talk to patients about bloodletting, bloodletting procedures, veins to bleed and to avoid, favorite conditions to treat with bloodletting, and case study examples. Bloodletting guidelines as outlined in "Clean Needle Technique Manual" will be emphasized. Upon completion of this course, practitioners will: - Understand the safety considerations of bloodletting including proper technique, contraindications, and possible adverse reactions - Know the equipment used, which instruments to use and which to avoid, how to dispose of used items - Know the bleeding points and zones used classically and in Master Tung bloodletting therapy - Know the indications for which bloodletting will likely be successful and how to treat each one.
