Course overview
This course provides a clear and concise discussion of the key elements in the Twelve-Step Facilitation treatment model for alcohol and drug abuse, including: the underlying theoretical rationale; similarities and dissimilarities to other approaches; format of treatment; counselor characteristics and training; client-counselor relationship; target populations; assessment; session format and content; and role of significant others. Learning Objectives: * Review an overview, description, and rationale for the Twelve-Step Facilitation (TSF) treatment model. * Review the similarities and dissimilarities of the TSF treatment model to other counseling approaches. * Review the format of the TSF treatment model: modalities, setting, duration, compatibility with other treatments, and role of self-help programs. * Review the appropriate counselor characteristics and training for facilitating the TSF treatment model. * Review the nature of the client-counselor relationship in the TSF treatment model. * Review the characteristics of the session format and content in the TSF treatment model.
