Course overview
Each year traumatic brain injury (TBI) results in approximately 2.8 million emergency department visits, hospitalizations, or deaths in the U.S. TBIs account for almost 2% of all emergency department visits, and more than one-quarter million Americans are hospitalized each year with a TBI. Therefore, health care professionals should possess insight into TBI to best serve patients. With that in mind, this course reviews the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) TBI Advisory, which highlights key elements of TBI and describes TBI relevance to behavioral health, including recommendations for how health care professionals can better meet the needs of patients who have a history of TBI.
