Course overview

It is well established that use of barcoding in histopathology labs helps to significantly reduce transcription errors and improve both workflow and productivity, as well as and costs in the lab. This workshop will help attendees better understand the pros and cons associated with different barcode types (symbology), barcode scanner types and print technologies used for labelling forms, pots, cassettes and slides in the lab. It will also address key lab workflows which can be improved and patient risk eliminated by introduction of the latest specimen and labelling and tracking equipment available in the market. In addition, the workshop will cover hints and tips to enable participants to troubleshoot common problems associated with printing and scanning barcodes in the lab. Empowering attendees to improve workflow in the lab to ensure that specimen barcodes scan first time every time, improve productivity, reduce errors and help to avoid staff frustration in the lab.
