Large format tissue processing in clinical and non-clinical laboratories is increasingly becoming established for routine use. For larger tissue samples such as prostate and breast, this system is the perfect substitute to conventional methods of processing that use the smaller tissue cassettes. Because large format cassettes are able to accept ten times the tissue volume of the smaller cassettes, stained sections seldom require piecing together like a jigsaw since they are not presented over countless slides. This is particularly valuable in cancer pathology as the tumor and surgical resection margins can often be viewed on a single slide. This presentation will outline the clinical benefits and best practices in tissue preparation using the large format system. Furthermore, advances made within the system will also be discussed and will include recent developments on both coverslipping and immunohistochemistry platforms for large format sections
