Course overview

RNAscope is a relatively novel, fully automated, in situ hybridization technology for the detection of messenger RNA (mRNA) targets in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue where results are visualized with a routine light microscope. The technology is extremely sensitive offering single mRNA molecule detection. Following an explanation of the technology, surgical pathology cases will be used to demonstrate its usefulness for the detection of human papilloma virus (HPV), albumin in liver tumors, MDM2 for lipomatous tumors, HER2, and COVID-19.
