Explore the role of occupational therapists in the field of oncology across a variety of settings and patient populations and examine a new oncology-focused screening tool to promote referrals to occupational therapy. Basic: Introductory Level 1 hour 1.Describe the prevalence and incidence of individuals with cancer diagnoses in the United States and globally. 2. Identify the occupational and functional needs of individuals undergoing or surviving from cancer treatment. 3.Examine a screening tool to promote referrals to occupational therapy (OT) by physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals across oncology settings. 4.Distinguish the need for occupational therapists in the interdisciplinary cancer care team across oncology settings. 5.Apply the OT process to a typical cancer care treatment cycle and case study of an individual undergoing cancer treatment. Stephanie Wright, OTR/L and Hannah Townsend, OTD Stephanie is an occupational therapist of 15 years, a graduate of the University of Florida with a B.S. in health science and a Master of Occupational Therapy. She currently is a therapist at Moffitt Cancer Center specializing in neurological rehabilitation, oncology and neuro-oncology working in the Acute care, critical care, and outpatient settings.
