Use of Robots in Surgery

Course overview

As robotic-assisted surgery grows more widespread, more perioperative professionals are likely to encounter patients scheduled for robotic surgery. Robotic-assisted surgery is evolving; as it becomes more commonplace, perioperative nurses and surgical technologists (STs) must be knowledgeable about the steps in the process of performing the setup of the trocars and robotic arm placement, as well as intraoperative management of the case. This course provides an overview of the use of robotic-assisted methods during minimally invasive surgery. It reviews the eight components necessary for an endoscopic surgical procedure and the endoscopic functions of robotic-assisted technology. It also discusses how perioperative professionals can best interact with robotic-assisted technology.
