Mental Health Effects of Concussions on Children and Adolescents
Tracking # 20-940234
Course overview
Concussions, or mild traumatic brain injuries, can have devastating immediate and long-term consequences for adolescents. New research indicates that without effective and immediate intervention, adolescents may experience physical, cognitive, behavioral, social, mental health, and academic effects for weeks, months, or years. This course will provide a brief overview of how concussions are sustained, the multi-dimensional effects that adolescents may experience because of a concussion, and the importance of identifying pre-injury conditions. Also, information on appropriate interventions to apply when working with post-concussive adolescents in a variety of contexts will be discussed.
