Course overview

Pain and discomfort are daily concerns for older adults. Chronic pain in older adults is associated with social isolation, more significant health costs, and disability (Domenichiello & Ramsden, 2019). Studies show a higher prevalence of chronic pain among adults over 65 than in all other age groups. This means many people you care for will likely have pain. Many older adults are already on medication to treat pain. They may feel they are being judged as an addict because they take these types of medications. This course discusses how to identify if a person is in pain, how you can help them manage pain, and how to help them cope with a possible addiction to pain medication.
