Course overview

This course outlines up-to-date, scientific research on cancer, current methods used to detect precancerous conditions, and the most effective prevention strategies offered to asymptomatic people. Early detection has its benefits, but, as this course discusses, there are conflicting opinions about the value of certain cancer screening tests. Participants will learn about the advantages and disadvantages associated with common testing procedures such as the full-body CT scan and mammography. Participants will learn about the financial expenses and health risks imposed by detection and treatment methods. The course provides expert commentary regarding debatable issues such as the unproven benefits some screening methods claim to provide and the incidence of over diagnosis associated with other screening tools. The course provides scientific research that addresses, and, in most cases, disproves myths about cancer development. The course offers an all-inclusive understanding of the developing theories, emerging treatment methods, and newly documented cancer prevention strategies lending participants the cutting edge information necessary to properly advise patients and/or clients about the most effective approach to cancer detection and treatment.
