Course overview

The use of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has been combined with traditional therapies when patients struggle with dysphagia relating to sensory and/or motor difficulties. The use with adults has grown to be quite common and the use in the pediatric arena has also grown dramatically. This short course will cover 2 case studies (1 infant and 1 toddler) to demonstrate appropriate case analysis, decisions of candidacy as well as electrode placement and addition of traditional therapies to complement its use. In addition, time will be spent on analysis of treatment effects, troubleshooting and tips and tricks to help these patients reach their highest potential.
