Course overview
The empirically-validated treatment series focuses on psychosocial interventions for various mental health conditions which are supported by research evidence. Social phobia, also known as social anxiety disorder, is defined as a marked or persistent fear of social or performance situations in which the person is exposed to unfamiliar people or to the potential for close scrutiny and negative evaluation by others. This course explores two empirically-supported interventions for social phobia: cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy. Learning Objectives: * Review a description of social phobia, including a definition of symptoms, onset, and prevalence rates. * Compare cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy to various treatment alternatives. * Review a description of the important steps and techniques for each treatment intervention.
