FOUNDATIONS OF CLINICAL SUPERVISION: PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE & CLINICAL SUPERVISION: TOPICAL ISSUES (NATIONAL) (10 CE)

Course overview

This course is a combination of Foundations of Clinical Supervision: Principles and Practice and Clinical Supervision: Topical Issues. During the presentation you will explore the definition of mental health supervision and differentiating it from other types of mental health relationships such as consultation. You will learn ways in which we, as supervisors, teach supervisees, and you will gain insight into the process of skill learning and review specific behavioral responses that facilitate or inhibit the clinical process. Topics will include models of supervision including a model of case review, a transcription model, and a model of applying your theoretical approach to supervision (in contrast to applying it exclusively with clients). You will also learn to differentiate targets of supervisory interventions such as targeting client interventions and targeting supervisee reactions to clients and supervision, including tips for addressing supervisee reactions to clients, the clinical relationship, and the supervisory relationship. In addition, this course will discuss multiple aspects of supervision including issues of the supervisory relationship, unconscious bias, perspectives on case consultation, parallel process, gems we share with supervisees, supervisee evaluation, paperwork, termination, and more. Furthermore, this course will explore and analyze actual supervision video and real vignettes that illustrate many of the concepts presented in the earlier program. After watching each video clip you will hear a discussion highlighting one or more supervision issues followed by a discussion of those issues. You will also be presented with supervision vignettes and then, using a model of case evaluation, you will be provided an analysis of potential interventions and issues that might emerge from those supervisory situations. Learn to apply multiple evaluation perspectives (clinical, legal, ethical, professional) to the supervision process 9. Understand the bi-directional nature of parallel process 10.Explore recommended and required documentation related to the supervision process
