Course overview
Hospice and palliative nurses must assess symptom burden and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to improve its management. They disseminate information to assist patients in making informed decisions and mediate with the healthcare team on behalf of the patient. This course prepares the nurse to facilitate effective communication among patients, families, and the IDT. Content covered in this course includes information regarding advanced care planning, benefits and burdens of end-of-life treatment, and promotion of patient and caregiver participation in IDT discussions. The goal of this course is to empower nurses in hospice and palliative care to advocate for, support, and prepare the patient, family, and caregivers for end-of-life care.
