Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Tracking # 20-947734
Course overview
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in older men, affecting more than 50% of men between the ages of 51 and 60, and up to 90% of men older than age 80 (Lokeshwar et al., 2019). Men with BPH may experience symptoms of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and bladder dysfunction. Providers have the option of initiating aggressive surgical or pharmacological interventions, or initiating a period of watchful waiting, during which time the clinician encourages healthy lifestyle modifications and evaluates symptoms periodically. The goal of this course is to help nurses in any practice setting to recognize signs and symptoms of BPH and educate patients about lifestyle changes and eventual treatment options
