Course overview

Assessment is the first step in the nursing process and informs all other aspects of nursing care. A thorough full body assessment that implements sound clinical judgment will lead to correct nursing diagnoses. Nursing diagnoses are used to develop a plan of care that should improve patient outcomes. Nurses must reassess patients after interventions to ensure the expected outcome has been achieved and there were no or minimal adverse outcomes. Therefore, nurses perform full or focused assessments throughout their shift. This course identifies how nursing assessment and diagnosis are used to create an individualized and prioritized care plan. The goal of this course is to prepare nurses to sit for the Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Examination. This course is not affiliated with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB).
