Patient Navigation in Cancer Care

Course overview

The U.S. healthcare system is complex, which results in fragmented care that patients with a cancer diagnosis must navigate. Advances in cancer detection and treatment have created a positive impact on overall mortality rates; however, one of the most challenging issues remains equitable cancer care. Patient navigation is a patient-centered intervention that seeks to close the gap in cancer disparities. Oncology navigation helps patients' timely access to care from prevention to survivorship and end-of-life care. This course introduces the role of the oncology navigator across different healthcare settings. The goal of this course is to provide nurses and social workers with an overview of oncology navigation in cancer care.
