Use of Pet Therapy

Course overview

Animals have been used as a therapeutic intervention for years, and the healthcare field is rich in anecdotal stories about the human-animal bond. This bond shows potential in improving psychological health and well-being, including quality of life measures, for people across the healthcare continuum. However, there is a great need for evidence-based information about the use of pet therapy. This course will develop the learners understanding of the history of pet therapy, the correct terminology in healthcare, and specific education related to canine therapy. The goal of this course is to educate nurses in all healthcare settings on the use of pet therapy.
