CHILD MALTREATMENT: RESEARCH ON THE IMPACT AND SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM (5 CE)

Course overview

Child abuse and neglect is one of the Nation's most serious concerns. This course provides national data about child abuse and neglect known to CPS agencies throughout the United States. This research addresses several important questions about the impact and scope of child maltreatment: Who reported child maltreatment? Who were the child victims? What were the most common types of maltreatment? How many children died from abuse or neglect? Who is responsible for abuse and neglect? Who received services? Learning Objectives: 1. Evaluate the frequency and sources of child maltreatment reports 2. Identify the characteristics of the victims of child maltreatment and the nature of maltreatment 3. Evaluate the prevalence of fatalities due to child maltreatment 4. Identify the characteristics of the perpetrators of child maltreatment 5. Assess the utilization rates of preventative and postinvestigative services
