This course addresses addiction issues - drugs of abuse, short- and long-term effects, assessment, treatment, and counseling strategies. Learning Objectives: * Define problematic drug use as well as the short and long term effects of specific drugs including the etiology of addiction. * Understand the stages of change models and motivational interviewing. * Learn to assess Chemical Dependency data to determine initial level of care. * Identify treatment modalities to address the individual, group, and family as well as cultural competence.
